Just to state the obvious.. the disc (whether CD or DVD) is there for those peoples who lost the GW Client install and want to reinstall the files it. Not to mention, installing the game again from the disc, you would probably need to redownload all the things that is missing.

How are those of us that actually would DIE to see more games out on DVD so we don't have a pile 4-6 (or more) CDs to shuffle around supposed to feel? It's folks like the OP that whine like that that publishers don't keep up with what the majority wants.

DVD drives have been out for years, yet those of us paying 50-80 dollars for games still have to deal with CDs because some folks can't be bothered to spend 20 bucks to upgrade.

Same problems we had when CD drives first came out. Publishers took years to adopt to a better technology, even though it was actually cheaper to burn one CD than 10 floppy disks. Why? Not because people were slow to adopt CD Rom drives, but because retailers like walmart refused to sell CD versions because it could "hurt sales" because Cletus didn't have the money to upgrade his 286.

it is important to note that this is not just something to complain about.

it is not about the fact that we can download the client.

the point is that we as consumers should not have to do this. we should not have to work around a product that we paid for with our hard earned money.

we as consumers have rights that large coorporations are taking advantage of. in a world that has several different types of media that a product can be released on, the maufacturer needs to cater to the needs of its consumers.

it is unfortunate that these corporations dont listen and are only concerned with money. the only way to make them change their ways is to be vocal about our concerns. to demand equal treatment for all consumers. not just the ones with DVD drives.

many will find my views rigid and maybe a bit silly. but the fact remains...if you let corporations take just a little of your rights away, they will take all of them away.

even though this topic is well answered in every way possible, the nature of the Title of the Thread forced me to reply.

ITs still your duty to have a system that will run things properly, that includes a DVD drive.

If you can spend twenty bucks more on the collectors edition, but the twenty bucks to buy a DVD-Rom drive is too much, maybe you need to examine your priorities.

Personally... I think it's about time it was on a DVD. I like being able to set an installer running while I go make a cuppa or have a gander through the manual without having to rush back every 10 seconds to check for "Insert Disk 2"

The disk-swapping should have stayed with the Amiga, imho.
Anyways, most PC magazines have switched to DVD-only for their covermounts. I'm amazed this hasn't happened in America (or where-ever the OP lives) yet.

QFT.

I'd also like to add about the whole "companies are taking away your rights" BS.

ArenaNet is not taking your rights away at all. They are offering both CD and DVD ROM versions of the game (which really should only be DVD, but thats another issue). If you are buying the CE edition, ArenaNet correctly assumes that you have a requirement to run the game that people who are "hardcore" gamers (which is reflected in your purchase of the $10 higher version, because you want everything you can get) have in their machines.

Bloody hell! Is there nothing people won't moan about? In this day and age everyone should have a DVD drive in their system, especially as they're only around £10. You can't be bothered to spend £10 on a DVD drive yet can be bothered to spend £50 on the CE without checking first?

What the hell's next? Sending it back 'cause the disc has an hole in the centre?

Not to mention that you don't even need the disc to install Nightfall. Like said above, open box, take out code and then enter it into the 'add new code' box.

Mr Chigger: That hoop's got a hole in.

Mr Anemone: Oh Eton and Madgalene. The hoop has an hole in. Of course it's got a hole in, it wouldn't be a hoop otherwise, would it, mush!

So if you still had a Pentium 1 with a Ati Rage gfx card you would expect guild wars to work ?

Get real.

<.<

Last time I bought a PC I'd have had to pay extra NOT to have a second DVD drive installed...which was 2 years ago.

Please tell me the OP is joking...

This isn't like you're missing out on any special content by using the disks. In fact, if you have to download the client, it may be easy due to the fact you don't have to swap discs. I see where you're coming from, but this is quite laughable. No one is forcing you to buy a DVD drive, but for your own sake, I think you should. Keep up with the times!

Eh, whatever. Just another reason to /whine

Well, I'm not going to flame you. Pretty much though dvd tech has been out for quite a few years now and if you can afford a $60 game then a $20 dvd rom reader shouldn't be out of your budget.

A-nets gone pretty far to offer as many options for players to get ahold of a copy of the game and I'm pretty sure that the ce has cd's in it as well. I think the majority of folks are going to demand dvds over cd's and with blu-ray and other technologies starting to get more popular, if you still only have a cd rom, there will be alot of titles you simple would be able to enjoy. For an upgrade, it's a pretty cheap option.

While DVD drives have been out for quite a while, it is the responsibility of the publisher to state the requirements needed to install the game:

From the official Guild Wars Site:
http://www.guildwars.com/support/faq...aq.php#support

Quote:
What are the minimum and recommended system specifications for Guild Wars Nightfall?

Minimum System Specs:

* Windows XP/2000/ME/98
* Intel Pentium III 800 MHz or equivalent
* 256 MB RAM
* CD-ROM Drive
* 3 GB Available HDD Space
* ATI Radeon 8500 or GeForce 3 or 4 MX Series Video Card with 32MB of VRAM
* 16-bit Sound Card
* Internet connection
* Keyboard and mouse
Although DVD's have been out for some time now, since they are not stated as a requirement, the OP has all the right to complain about it.
